Powerful PeteWonderful feeling, isn't it? Are you disassemblying your cogset assembly (makes cleaning the cogs that much easier, with far fewer skinned knuckles).

MaxI'm not at that level of proficiency yet.. but I think I'll get there eventually. For now, I'm happy running a cloth between each of the cogs. :)

andrewIf you get Conti tyres with kevlar folding beeds, you need to do as I was told and stretch them first. This is how i did it.
1. grow 2 gum trees to about 10 or 12 inch diameter, about 8 feet apart.
2. put some old seat belting or minimum half inch rope around the tree and through the tyre a couple of times. put another peice of rope/belting through the tyre to make another loop with 2-3 thicknesses. Put another loop around the 2nd tree.
3. use a cheap half ton puller (the one you lifted the son's Ford Escort engine out with last week) to join the 2 loose rope loops.
4. give it heaps on the lever - this is subjective so no guarantees are provided about the effectiveness of the (and naturally no Conti technician will support it!).
5. Still a reasonably hard hand install - use one of those cheap but effective yellow bike tools next time.
6. The tyres I did this on (blue GP4000 about 2 years back for one of my sons) have done several thousand km and are now almost easy to reinstall having been off about 3 times as I have found better wheelsets for him.

NathanSo right about the gatorskins, bloody horrible to get on, but I've not had a puncture with them. Think I'd prefer to have punctures and tyres I can remove though!

MaxYup, same here. That's why I moved to Vittoria Rubino Pros, front and back. I've had one puncture in several thousand Km of riding, and it was a breeze to fix!

SteveI just put one of these on last night and relived all of your pain. After trying for an hour and then using levers, I realized I punctured the tube during my efforts. After patching the tube, I finally got it mounted. If I get a flat, I am going back to Vittoria Rubino Pros. My incentive to change over was 3 flats in 2 weeks.

bikeriderwow, you should try putting on velofex record tyres. Gatorskins are easy.
